A talk by Dr Clare Summerskill on At the Rainbow’s End, a verbatim play addressing homophobic and transphobic abuse and mistreatment of older LGBTQ+ people in care and receiving care in later life.
In this talk, Clare will address the subject matter of the play in detail and present several extracts – provided by those who have experienced incidents of homophobia and transphobia in care settings or when receiving care in their own home. Her talk will be followed by a short Q&A.
The play is also being performed around the country by members of Clare’s theatre company, Artemis. The script tackles an extremely important issue concerning older LGBTQ+ people who, having perhaps been out for their whole adult lives, are faced with the possibility of having to go ‘back into the closet’ at the point of accessing care in later life.
